Does Exactly What It Claims - Vivitar Mini Digital Camera Review
I followed the guide given with the camera to help maintain and check for the waterproof feature and water got behind the screen and inside the lens. I would recommend this camera but not for everyday use, then I would get something more complex. If you are a photographer this is not the camera for you.
I like it very much and got this one as a gift for my fiance. We use them for video half the time.
This is the second Olympus Tough that I have own. The first one died after 3 years of taking it to the beach and eventually the seals give up and let water in (sea water). This camera is head and shoulders above the other point and shoot cameras for snorkeling, outdoor shots, video in at least a decently lit location, and even indoors within 5 feet of the camera. My favorite setting continues to be - AUTO! Pictures got deleted either when the camera ran out of batteries or when the battery got taken out.
The 3000 had no lens protection, so it was inevitably getting dirt, dust, sand and water on the lens which really messes up your pictures. This camera fixed that with a lens cover that shoots over the lens when you turn the camera off; it feels sturdy and keeps the grime out. The camera feels solid and well made; good user interface, fair number of options for a point-and-shoot. The bundled PC software is bloated and buggy, but that's to be expected. I have a 14GB-Class-10 memory card installed. Class-10 is the fastest card there is. I was especially interested in taking the camera snorkeling on the coral reefs there. It goes down 30ft, which is plenty for snorkeling: the furthest I could comfortable descend is about ~20ft. It starts with "plug the camera into a computer and load the software" - what software" There is none! In the box you'll find a quick start guide, but if you want the full user manual, you'll need to download it from Olympus as a PDF file. This camera is feature dense, the user manual is 80+ pages long, and it should have been included in the box.
This will help me take good pictures were my Rebel can't be taken (rain forest, underwater) I recently ordered this camera for my wife. We have used it 5 or 6 times now and we are really beginning to love how easy it works, as well as the features.
Manual or computer panoramic mode is better. If someone is interested, I could send some pictures (outdoor or underwater). What a mistake. Since returning home, I have returned my camera and in fairness Olympus fixed and returned it within two weeks.
